Week 15 Internship Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to week fifteen and the final blog post that comes along with it. Talk about a semester, through the ups and downs of school and life, it is truly crazy how fast these semesters pass us bye. This will be the final blog post of the semester, although I would usually say I wish it wasn’t, this time I have worked long hours to get bye through this semester for my classes and I am whooped. This week has been packed full of studying for finals and working on projects to round out my classes and show the culmination of what I learned throughout the entire semester. In this blog post I am going to talk about what this experience meant for me and what I learned. I will then round out this blog post with what I can see in my near future and my goals moving forward. As everyone should know, an internship is extremely useful for many aspects of your journey. The ability to meet new people and work with possible colleagues in the future under a great supervisor l...

Week 13 Internship Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to an abnormal week of the internship. Week number 13 is accompanied with great results from our Research Colloquium I was unable to be at due to outside issues and working on final assignments.                It is to might greatest delight that we have done a great job and that my slides and presentation was good enough to help share the Battle of Olustee Project to the viewers on November 17. Looking back, Dr. Gannon really helped me realize and reach a Power Point that looked professional. Before it was way to simple and looked like a High school Power Point and needed some readjustment. I think the limited text, the great images of the Generals and sources that accompanied the summarized story of the battle felt smooth and very easy to follow along without missing any of the major points I was trying to present. It is such a relief that our team was able to share our work and h...

Week 12 Internship Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to week twelve of this semester’s internship. This week our internship group met Thursday morning in preparations for the upcoming research colloquium. This week I want to discuss about this new preparation and other internship and school stuff along with the importance of having hobbies outside the “office” to continue high productivity. It is my unfortunate dilemma that I will not be able to be with my team and present with them on the seventeenth of November especially being the first to present. However, although my presence won’t be they’re via zoom, I will however provide everything required and help my team to give an amazing presentation to gain more support for our project. The idea of this research colloquium is to provide our work and findings to a greater audience outside of ourselves. My presentation will be going over the battle itself, providing pictures and images of the generals at the battle and the man that thought of doing the oper...

Week 11 Internship Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to week eleven of my internship and the blog post for the corresponding week. As the new week comes to an end, the work has been similar to the previous weeks. New elements of the final part of the semester are presenting themselves within each class I am taking ranging from the final papers and tests and other assignments. Although last week was quite stressful, this week was much less affected by outside factors. This week I wanted to discuss my civic responsibility and professional development. As a history major, internally I feel like my goal as a historian goes beyond learning exactly what happened in the past alone. To create viable sources for others to learn the past, uncovering buried and forgotten treasures like artifacts, buildings and even cities and towns. To not do these things is to forget the basics and fundamentals of any craft or sport, it is vital so keep the past alive no matter how volatile, war torn, brutal. The civil responsibi...

Week 10 Internship Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to another week of my internship and corresponding blog post. This week was quite mixed on the spectrum of good and bad spreading amongst the various aspects of my life, and similarly to the past few weeks, most of my work has been the same across all classes and projects for the most part. Well, the one thing that pushed this week into the negative was finding an issue with my car that required the utmost panic and speed to get it back. This was also on the day where I had a quiz and a discussion post due. As you could imagine throwing this kind of wrench into the turbine of me preparing for these two things throughout the week is quite stressful and completely threw me off my edge. This in fact caused me to get the lowest grade yet on my quiz, not a horrible grade but noticeable. This event was actually the first time I required an Uber and walking outside my living complex, and I am just happy it waited to rain the day after this incident. For My o...

Week 9 Internship Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s blog post. Unfortunately not much new has come up surrounding the work of my internship. This week I have been studying for a Midterm and looking for possible internships in the future. For my internship, we have a research colloquium on the 17 th of November where our team will be presenting our research findings via zoom. However, it is unfortunately on a day I am unavailable for this event due to family things, but I will still be able to present non the less. I have a couple more slides I need to finish, and I will record my presentation before the actual event. Hopefully it will go as smoothly as if I was there. But like I said I have a couple more slides and it should go for approximately 10 minutes of simple slides that provides the information about the battle part of The Battle of Olustee. Although I am working on school stuff and internship stuff, something new that has been prevalent is the search for a new internship duri...

Week 8 Internship Blog

Hello everyone, Patrick Callaghan here for another week of my internship and another blog along with it. I hope everyone is having great and successful week. Personally, I have finished two out three “midterm” assignments and begin looking to the end of course papers due. This week Dr. Gannon came back from her conference in the United Kingdom and has given me some interesting things to work on. This week I was asked how I may create a ten-minute presentation for The Battle of Olustee at a research seminar. Personally I have not seen many research seminars in person or via the internet, especially when it comes to history so I started looking for some that would inspire me and possibly spark some great ideas. Which it has and has not. Although these examples I watch are very descriptive and great to watch, they are all over an hour long. One thing I have learned is that in presentations the flow and rhythm is very important, and it changes with how long a presentation is, what ...
