Week 6 Internship Blog

Hello, Patrick Callaghan here posting about internship week number six. It is actually crazy to think how long it has been, being that this is the halfway mark already. Perhaps staying more indoors throughout this long Covid-19 year and to think it could last longer and get worse with different variants popping up elsewhere in the world. I just hope more and more people get vaccinated as quickly as possible. Although it may be gloomy, it has just given me more opportunities to learn, research, write and try new things I have not thought of doing before.                One of these parts of our Olustee project is the map. I have just about completed the basic script for the battle overview and plan on making my first story board for the events soon. So, in my free time I have been looking at how I was going to make this map. Being that I have not made a map or done anything that deals with aftereffects on an image before. A challenge I have accepted in taking and actually really enj

Week 5 Internship Blog

Hello, Patrick Callaghan updating everyone on another week. This will be week number five of the internship. Not unlike the other weeks I have experienced some ups and downs with both project things and outside forces that seem personal sometimes. This week we were given a few extra items on our to do list. For me, I was given the job to learn how to make a map that depicts the Battle of Olustee visually showing where both sides started, where the battle occurred and what happened. This has been a very interesting topic to research and watch videos on due to the many cool and interesting videos that shows different programs and the types of projects you can create. Many of these creators use Adobe and it looks incredible, some of their final projects look like they could be in documentaries on the history channel or something. This was actually one way I found learning about battles enjoyable myself before this internship. The only question now is if the Adobe program is worth the pr

Week 4 Internship Blog

Patrick Callaghan here for another week. This will be week number four of my internship. This week added some extra stuff to what I was doing for the project of Olustee which included learning to write better with new techniques that are to help build up to something that future advisors would look for. During this Internship under the supervision of Dr. Gannon, she has offered us an opportunity to help build our skills outside of our main work with our projects. She is holding zoom meetings that we can attend and talk about the ways people or bosses in our field are expecting papers and work to look like. Interestingly enough the first technique she provided us was very similar to what I do in my head. First is to just start writing. I use this to put as much information I know down and to help formulate what my question will be. Although what she recommended was a little different I do see the similarities and it is something that I will for sure take up in future projects. Perso

Week 3 Internship Blog

Hello, Patrick Callaghan here again. I am back for my third blog post on the third week of my internship. This week I have been busy learning and finding more and more about the Battle of Olustee and fighting with technology. Never, and I mean never have I struggled with technology more. This week was filled with trying to figure out the Outlook calendar and the scheduled recurring zoom meetings. Trying to keep the link but somehow deleting it at the same time was a problem that took way longer than it should have to fix. Not only that but everyone loves when their internet providers seem to be switching on and off the wi-fi ten times a day for no reason but thankfully they decided to stop. Although this week was plagued with technology issues, I took the time I did have to look at information about Olustee and the battle that took place there. This week during our team meeting we were given roles to attack to further the progress towards our goals. I was given the tas
