Internship Week 7

Hello everyone, Patrick Callaghan here once again for another week of my internship and another blog post accompanying it. This week we unfortunately could not meet as a team due to Dr. Gannon’s international conference, all the best to her. This week was very similar to last week. With preparing for midterm tests, papers, essays, reading and research as well as the practice writing I have been doing.

The beginning of this week was mostly focused on the above assignments and this end of week and weekend I will be working on my summary to make it as digestible and intriguing as possible. It has been recommended that a battle map that can be used as a visual representation of the failed operation by the Union forces and Maj. Gen. Gillmore. I need to communicate with my group members to discuss how we want to do this whether it be a “slide show” depicting the events or a video of an animated map with or without commentary over it. All in all a visual version of the written battle summary not only provides a visual perspective to distance and time but also the impact it had on the war itself.

Along with these changes required for the project, I have been thinking about future ambitions. I am not sure if everyone knows but there is a company called Evergrande in China that is currently kick starting the beginning of a possible economic crisis. I am not an expert economic advisor but with the combination of this and the hyperinflation being “downplayed” by the US government I am unsure what I should do. Should I do more internships or secure a job. From what I have heard it could be as bad as the 2008 incident, but I have heard and read that it could be worse due to the “under the table” loaning that has no known amount due to it being illegal. I of course hope it does not get that bad but unfortunately it is better to be aware and prepared of such problems.

In conclusion of this week, it is quite hectic from the Olustee project to the possible issues in the economy. Lots of work ahead to complete both with the project and through my current classes as well as the possibility of sending in resumes and other registrations for other possible internships that open this December.
